The Only G20 Country Without Nuclear Power

Given the current energy crisis our country is facing, we thought that now would be a good time to share this light-hearted April fool’s skit from our friends at Nuclear for Australia.

The demand for reliable, affordable electricity is about to skyrocket. Artificial intelligence alone will drive a massive surge in power needs over the coming years. If we can’t deliver cheap, stable energy, the tech companies will simply build their massive data centers somewhere else, and Australia will miss out on the jobs, investment, and economic boom that should be ours.

Yet here we are. The only G20 nation without a nuclear energy sector (and all because of a bad deal made with the Greens in the late 90s).

What makes this even more absurd is that we’re gearing up to acquire nuclear-powered submarines for the Royal Australian Navy as part of AUKUS. If the federal moratorium on nuclear energy isn’t lifted, Australia will become the first (and only) country in the world to operate nuclear subs while banning a domestic nuclear industry.

Rodney Dangerfield couldn’t have written a better joke.
